Having good uptime is important, but having a good customer service is important too, Host Gator has both of them. When I bought Host Gator, I have a problem transferring my existing domain and files to Host Gator, I called them and to my surprise, they didn't charge me for the transferred and it was free. Within days, my domain was transferred.
Host Gator also has a 24 hour live chat, which is great. Whenever I encounter a problem I will use the Host Gator live chat rather than calling because, calling to USA from Singapore is tedious.
I knew that not all people know how to create a website, Host Gator saw that too. Therefore, Host Gator spent a fortune to get over 4,500 web templates from various categories for every customer who sign up their hosting plan for free.

In my opinion, positive uptime is the most important thing that an online business must have. I'm fortunate enough to find Host Gator as my hosting company.
There are many hosting companies out there, cost lesser than Host Gator, but in the long run, you will find yourself losing money on negative uptime and unnecessary billing. I believe spending a bit more money on quality hosting company is well worth.
With the great customer service Host Gator gave me, I can conclude that it will be a great place for people new to the internet.
